Why it is important to produce less

Share
This season, we've thought of a different way to produce our organic cotton lingerie for women. It's complicated when ultra fast fashion giants release new products almost daily. We are far from the praise of slowness. Producing more to earn more at the expense of the planet. Discover our new lingerie DSC00132-1 I'm going to explain how we work at Peau-Ethique. We create our products from A to Z in-house. With the help of a stylist and a pattern maker to assemble the products, to see if the result suits us or not. Then we buy the fabric. And sometimes we buy too much. We can't finish our rolls because we need to buy lace, for example. But we won't have enough fabric. As you understand, it's a vicious circle. This year, due to economic necessity, we are using up our end-of-rolls, if I may say so!

A strong ecological act

Firstly, because the produced fabric is used, it is not destroyed and will not pollute another country in an open-air landfill. We had the opportunity to purchase a roll of tulle from a very old production of a major French lingerie house. This collection is truly 100% waste-free, because on our side, we haven't bought any fabrics or accessories, and we are using a roll destined for destruction that has been sitting in a warehouse (where electricity was produced) for several years.

Out of 60,021 tons of textiles purchased in total by the companies that responded to the study, the generated offcuts represent 6,705 tons, or about 11%.

Let's value our waste!

Each time, we ask ourselves how to produce well. Especially, how to produce better? This year we decided to valorize our waste by creating a wide range of bralettes and briefs, and also scrunchies! The textile industry is a polluting industry. But we want to change mentalities. There is no need to over-produce. Upcycling is trendy, but it's up to us to upcycle our own creations. We can also be the actors of this change!

Peau-Ethique is a committed brand

This year for Pink October, we decided to donate €1 from each item sold to Rose-Up. This is not pink-washing; a large portion of our clientele has or has had breast cancer. We are always considering creating a specialized bra for mastectomy. This will come, I am sure, because our goal is truly to meet all needs in cotton lingerie! If you want to know why we don't have an upcycling collection for men, it's very simple: we use almost all the rolls, and the cutting waste is not reusable. When you're a brand, you have to act; you can't wait for change to come from others. It's up to us to initiate this change.
