And yes, no more cars, only cyclists, skaters, scooter riders (!), rollerbladers and pedestrians (you & me, basically) are invading parking spaces instead of cars. Nice idea, isn't it?
The idea is to create a green, educational, ecological, fun, and friendly space, but a temporary one, and above all, on a parking spot that has been paid for in advance (yes, because we wouldn't want to get into trouble with the law, would we?).
Existing since 2005 in San Francisco, PARK(ing) DAY encourages reflection on the place of nature in the city, the quality of the urban living environment, and the sharing of public space. The goal is also to make all citizens aware that cars are not necessarily an end in themselves, and that there are other ways to experience the city...
Many people are expected, and a lot of entertainment is planned... In the capital, surprise interventions will punctuate the event: green parades of customized and crazy bikes, guerrilla gardening actions, flashmobs, and the appropriation of an entire street... To close this day, all participants will gather at Petit Bain - a new Parisian floating cultural venue involved in PARK(ing) Day - for a green and quirky artistic event. On the program: screenings, audiovisual performances, networked installations, and DJ sets.
Who will participate?
