MEGA-SURPRISE: UNIQLO FACTORIES ARE SWEATSHOPS!!

Share

I've never set foot in an Uniqlo store, I just know that Ines de La Fressange designs a few models for them and that it's a cool brand. But you know me, I'm more familiar with organic brands than trendy ones (plus I really have no style because I'm not a fashion blogger, but that's another story).

Anyway, after a quick search on the internet, when you see that they sell a dress for €9.90. Well, okay, one might ask questions. So be it.

This morning an American site published a study that flat-out accuses Uniqlo. So, they are allegedly using sweatshops. Well, I want to say MEGAsurprise. How can a brand release dresses for €9.90? At some point, guys, you really have to start asking questions or take off your blinders. I don't know.

So, in China, according to this investigation, the Japanese chain regularly endangers the lives of workers. In these workshops, employees work far too many overtime hours (far, far too many), but above all, their health is put at risk. Indeed, the dyes used for clothing (which are quite disgusting, between you and me) (but put on the clothes people buy) (and also pollute rivers...) are used without protection....

The study in question.

But you know the worst part is that it's hot in these sweatshops (it's terribly well named, isn't it?) people faint, women work topless. Their breasts soak in the dye, and like that, the risk of breast cancer is greatly multiplied.

Ultra archaic system with punishment for employees. For example, you arrive 8 minutes late. ONLY 8 MINUTES LATE AND YOU LOSE 2 HOURS OF YOUR WAGES. That's where we are. We're here because we don't want to pay a lot for our clothes.

What's sad is that everything can be improved. First, the dyes. Let's really stop polluting a country and, above all, endangering the lives of others.

I don't know what to do when I read this kind of article. I don't know what to say. I feel sad to see that because we always want to produce more at a lower cost for a certain class of the population, we deprive another class. Anyway, always the same serpent biting its tail.
