Yes, I know you know... but it's the first university residence in France made from containers, so we can say that for once, French students will be well-housed. 25 m² for €280, and there are 100 apartments... For that alone, I'm nostalgic for university... Well, yeah, for having parties in containers...
Of course, it's super green because it's genuinely recycling old containers, as we say in French, transformed into studios—it's brilliant. Especially in Le Havre, a city that has seen hundreds pass through, and to turn them into housing, that's real recycling. And it's economical too; instead of polluting in a corner of the port, they serve as housing.
The question everyone's asking is, do you feel "boxed in"? The Italian architect, Alberto Cattani, found the technical solution: it's a metallic structure that supports the containers and allows the studios to be staggered, and integrates walkways, balconies, and terraces. Except, for safety reasons and fear of too many boisterous parties, there are no terraces...
The only question, as always with containers, is whether students will be too cold this winter and won't die of heat this summer (at the same time, Le Havre isn't Nice in terms of sunshine).
