Have you decided to take the plunge and adopt period panties? Here we explain how to care for your menstrual panties to preserve them longer. Reusable menstrual protection is an excellent way to reduce our daily impact on the planet. Every second, nearly 1447 sanitary pads are used worldwide. Imagine the amount of menstrual waste accumulated each year. Menstrual panties are a more economical and ecological alternative to these sanitary products.
At Peau-Ethique, our menstrual panties are made with 100% certified organic cotton, like all our products. The absorbent part is composed of 4 superimposed layers that ensure maximum absorption to keep you dry and prevent leaks. Aesthetic, comfortable, and discreet, the panties can be washed many times and used for 7 years. To preserve their absorbent properties and protect the cotton fibers, we give you some simple tips to wash your period panties in three easy steps while maintaining all their properties.

Step 1 – Pre-wash
First, rinse your period panties by hand with water only. Use lukewarm water and rub slowly and lightly to remove as much absorbed fluid as possible. Do not use hot water, as it could cook the blood and leave stains after washing. A simple and effective solution to remove blood from your panties: dilute sodium percarbonate, not to be confused with baking soda, in a basin of lukewarm water, and soak the panties. Leave for a few minutes and gently rub the fabric.
* Tip: it is recommended to wash your menstrual panties before the first use to stimulate their absorption capacity.
Step 2 – washing
After rinsing the organic period underwear in cold water for 2 or 3 minutes, you can put them in your washing machine at 30°. You can wash your period underwear with your regular laundry. Don't worry, there's no risk of it staining your other clothes. You just need to put it in a laundry bag, as you usually do with your delicates.
You can also opt for hand washing with mild soaps or detergents, organic if possible. Avoid chemical products as much as possible, as they could damage the fabrics. Then add water, apply soap to the underwear, and gently rub, focusing on the absorbent area.
Rinse everything, and you're done. Your underwear is clean, and all that's left is to let it dry.
Formation professionnelle
This is the easiest part; simply hang your period underwear on the line, apply a clip, and let it air dry naturally, just like in the old days. Do not put it in the dryer. It's true that you won't be able to use your underwear for a few hours, which is why we recommend having several pairs of period underwear or other feminine hygiene products (cups, reusable pads, etc.).
To recap, things to avoid for the longevity of your period underwear:
- Industrial detergents, fabric softener, stain remover, bleach—all industrial products ending in "-ant" that could cause allergies. As we told you, our underwear is made of several membranes, including Tencel, which is highly absorbent, and cotton layers that are in direct contact with your skin. The chemical components present in these industrial products are aggressive and could reduce the absorbent capacity of the underwear.
- Also avoid bleach and baking soda. And absolutely no hot water, no tumble dryer, and no iron.
Your French period underwear thanks you!
