Manufacturing: a significant cost

First, we chose to use 100% certified organic cotton. Organic cotton is obviously more expensive than conventional cotton. It's not BCI; our label guarantees that our product is organic. We know where it is manufactured; we have been working with the same cooperative for years (in Turkey). In addition, we chose to have the absorbent part manufactured in France (in our region, to be precise). It was a choice to have a part of our product made in France. The manufacturing takes place in our partner workshop in EuroMed (where no one is exploited). In addition, we must account for the prototypes, and there were many for this product. We almost gave up because we couldn't achieve satisfactory absorption.

Transport and logistics are also a significant burden

Even though for now we handle our own orders and can store them here in Saint-Chamond, it's a cost that cannot be minimized. As of today, we are considering hiring someone to prepare orders and allow us to move forward with our projects to conquer France (just kidding). And for us, considering this is a very good sign, even if it probably won't be a full-time position, hiring hasn't happened for us in a few years! In this section, we have included communication and marketing. This year, we decided to minimize our costs to allow for the development of a quality product that is also accessible to everyone. Indeed, periods are expensive for women, and we do not wish to impact you by including advertising. Well, perhaps a choice we regret, but for this year, we prioritize good word-of-mouth. However, we have "invested" in terms of packaging. I think we'll talk about this in more detail, but transport from Peau-Ethique to your home is a truly heavy part of a business. We don't imagine it because most large websites offer free delivery.

Then comes the expenses section, which encompasses a bit of everything

Peau-Ethique is a viable company, and we have salaries (be careful, we don't have the salaries of real CAC 40 CEOs!), but we have been paying ourselves from the beginning. Salaries mean taxes (like everyone else). The final price of our item is €29, and we could have stopped there, saying that for organic cotton menstrual underwear, it was fair. However, we wanted to make a donation for each pair of underwear sold. While this reduces our margin, we genuinely wanted this purchase to have a real impact. We chose to donate to EndoMind because it is a cause that particularly touches us, but all causes are equally valid, especially those dealing with menstrual poverty.
