Air France launched a green flight on October 13th. What to think about it? Is it greenwashing? Because even if we are eco-friendly, we sometimes take a plane (even if we offset after the flight)
Indeed, when a big polluter applies a little green paint, we somewhat believe it and then move on.
However, this eco-friendly flight reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 60%, and that's good when we know that planes are the biggest polluters. But how does it work? Three principles are highlighted:
- the use of biofuel, meaning a mix of traditional kerosene and biofuel made from recycled cooking oil.
- the lightening of the aircraft with seats, cabinets, trolleys... lighter than usual.
- the optimization of flight procedures, especially through a continuous descent approach instead of a stepped approach.
However, we note that France is lagging behind, as Iberia, Finnair, Lufthansa, and KLM had already taken the lead.
The extra thing missing is that this flight could be offset, and yes, if you're going to be eco-friendly, you might as well go all the way!
