To you who are shopping the sales

Share

"Dear you,

Today I feel like writing you a little note, like one you'd leave a friend on the table. Or a lover. Well, take it as you wish.

It's the first day of sales and you're already impatient, you've done some scouting in stores. You tell yourself, "Today I'm getting a bargain." Do you really think so?

I understand, you know, sometimes I also buy worse on sites that have private sales, if you know what I mean (THIS IS POVERTY) but I think that from now on I'll never be able to buy Fast-Fashion again, and you yourself know why,

We've talked a lot about Bangladesh, yet you still don't mind going into those stores that continue to make those people work in conditions that make you want to cry (or vomit). But then someone once tried to explain to me that it was normal, we have a difficult life in France while they... Well yeah, they have nothing, so why don't I know how to give them a better salary... The people who make that tank top you've been wanting for a while live in conditions you'd rather forget, your tank top looks so good on you. Oh yes, sometimes children work in these factories (yes, some even apparently pick cotton in Uzbekistan), but honestly, doesn't this dress look really good on me?

You know, I could write to you for hours.

But I think, like you, that every job deserves a salary. That even if we don't have much money. Buying clothes made in deplorable conditions, just for the sake of buying, it's better to refrain. Even if honestly, these jeans give me a dream butt, don't you think?

I won't lie, I'm going to check if there are sales. There's an ethical clothing brand I absolutely love, but whose prices always make me cry blood. If they have sales, all the better, otherwise I'll buy that product I've wanted for almost 5 months at another time. At the same time, in ethical fashion, sales aren't mandatory, or a priority. The goal is to provide dignified work for every workshop, so that artisans don't write on the labels of our underwear that they had to work under duress. I could never wear that kind of clothing. I understand the enthusiasm for sales; we live in a consumer society, and an ultra-consumerist one at that. But I'm just putting this out there: for brands that offer 40% or 50% off right from the start, doesn't that mean their margins are so large that it's ultimately nothing? It's not a loss. Conversely, for a small brand, sales are a loss. (And you know we're not really in fashion).

We're still friends, I just wanted you to know what I really think about sales
