First of all, I want to say that the blog, like its owner, will be going into summer mode, so we'll be posting a little less and maybe not just green topics!!
The premise: an island made of recycled plastic that will help clean up the oceans...
You don't quite see the connection, don't panic, I'll explain!
Recycled Island is the construction of a new 10,000 km² (= the size of Hawaii) floating island, made from plastic waste floating in our oceans. But who had this crazy idea to one day invent school: the Dutch, I must say that deep down I'm not surprised because they are always ahead when it comes to sustainable development...
The purpose of this island is to collect all the floating waste. I'm not telling you anything new by saying that a continent of plastic has been found in the Pacific Ocean... and all the damage it causes to the seabed...
But what is the ultimate goal? The goal is to be able to host climate refugees (primarily those from Bangladesh) and even create new land for agriculture... And the best part is that the island will be almost energy self-sufficient...
Well, I think it's utopian, but I don't know why I like projects like this that make you think, "that's crazy," and which ultimately lead (at least I hope so) to real reflection on our waste management and especially on the issue of climate refugees... so, while this project undoubtedly needs improvement, it exists...
