And yes, this is the extraordinary story of Plastiki, an adventure that lasted 4 months and that I've been following for a while... but due to lack of time, I didn't get around to it, so now I'm doing what everyone else is doing, I'm talking about it :) ...
So a crossing that starts from San Francisco and goes all the way to Sydney (and which arrived yesterday, July 26th). 12,500 bottles were needed for the construction of this catamaran, most of them assembled with organic glue made from cashew nut shell liquid and cane sugar...
The goal is to raise public awareness about ocean pollution. Does that ring a bell? (Recycled Island, a recycled plastic island) And no joke, it was designed by one of the Rothschild heirs...
But it really is THE ecological ship: renewable energy (solar, wind, marine turbines), sails made from recycled plastic, boat supplies made from recyclable plastic, the skippers eat organic food (and local)...
What I'm saying is: here's another great initiative... I don't know about you, but I have the impression that these days they're multiplying... and that's a good thing, because ocean pollution and the disappearance of species (including Bella) are among my greatest anxieties...
