In two months, it will have been a year since I've been handling communications for Peau-Ethique and more besides! but I'll talk about that today!, so it's time for a review...
As a matter of preference, I'll focus on Press Relations, because, how can I put it, it's a Cutthroat Universe and yes, it's almost like Dallas and full of surprises good ones, of course..
Here we go... "Once Upon a Time: The Story of PR,"
Between journalists calling me at the last minute to urgently request visuals for a story they need to finish the next day! Professional that I am, it's with pleasure that I turn my computer back on (because I had finished my day) and take care of it... If only I were sure to get an article, but not even!
And then, it's never routine (and that's a good thing!); between journalist turnover (you'd better update your file very regularly!), the tricks to avoid the editorial secretaries' barrier on the phone, the crucial choice of email subject line that will prevent the journalist from deleting you, responses like "Oh no, I didn't receive your press release, please send it to me again" (for the 3rd time!), or "I'll put it aside..." and that's at best, i.e., when you get a response :), receiving products photographed in various states... (no comment), the uncertainty of being chosen; and good surprises too!! like when I get an article in Russia in a professional lingerie magazine even though we don't even have resellers, or interviews for TV, or when an entire page is dedicated to Peau-Ethique in a magazine.
"...the news is out (finally!!), the journalist from the very trendy magazine G... after 15 reminder emails, 10 calls.. finally told me that we would be in the next issue!! The famous publication date approaching (too impatient to wait for the media monitoring), ready, set, go, I head to the nearest newsstand, I pounce on the magazine, and that's "THE moment": I frantically flip through the pages looking for the famous article promised by the journalist!! and there, there are two scenarios:
- I find the article and I have a big "smile", my batteries are recharged to continue with renewed vigor,
- The 2nd, much less pleasant, scenario is that I don't find the article, and then I'm back to frantically searching the magazine for the 4th time, and then FINALLY a moment of clarity, it was cut during editing because that's the journalists' response! "Oh, no, I'm sure I included you in the layout, but maybe you were cut during editing..." "or we had too many products, we had to make a choice...",
Despite all these little adventures, I love my job! Because it must be said, nice journalists do exist (I even have my "favorites" who contact me when they have subjects where they can feature Peau-Ethique and that's really great!), and it's super nice to do everything possible so that the brand (in this case Peau-Ethique) we work for is in many magazines and becomes world-famous yes, yes, I'm working on it most recently the US with Pregnancy magazine! it's still a Great Challenge....
